Nature Play Out Day January 2017

Yesterday’s summer Play Out Day at Matilda Bay was attended by an incredible 388 kids and parents, from a total of 61 different locations.

Families came from as far as Northam, Bruce Rock (and even New South Wales!) to take part in a fun-packed day of unstructured activities.

Nothing makes us happier than facilitating an environment in which kids and parents can have a ball outdoors. Kids were all smiles (and at times full of concentration!) as they transformed the foreshore into a miniature village of cubbies, splashed, floated, and created water features with plastic tubing and buckets by the river, and covered themselves in sticky, muddy clay.

Here's a selection of photos we took of cubby building (with boxes kindly supplied by Reece Plumbing in Claremont)...

Water play...

Clay play, whittling, and singalongs at Mud Pies Grove....

The morning’s windy conditions were perfect for making and flying kites...

Ice-sledding down the grassy slope proved to be a crowd favourite, with kids lining up for multiple rides...

It’s always great to see kids stepping outside of their comfort zones and taking risks; Tiny hands sawing through cardboard with capability, feet squishing in clay (tentatively at first, and then with glee), and a nervous expression immediately replaced with giggles as an ice-sled takes off down the hill (pushed by Mum, Dad or a sibling).

We’re in the process of putting together many more Nature Play WA events for 2017  – so watch this space!

Thanks for coming to the summer Play Out Day!
