National Day of Real Play

The 5th of June is officially the National Day of Real Play! It is an annual celebration of everything that makes play so important for kids’ health and happiness, and it’s a chance for families all over Australia to get outside and remind themselves to make real play part of every day.

Nature Play and Omo have joined forces to make the National Day of Real Play a reality and we are committed to making it a part of every family’s calendar.

Being a parent is the hardest job on the planet. We tend to be time poor, sleep deprived, and consumed by a passion to do everything we can for our kids.

Parents today have a long, and growing, list in our minds or all the things of a ‘good parent’ should do for their kids. There’s team sports, music lessons, languages, and all the rest.

But here at Nature Play we believe there are no flash cards for good parenting. And this National Day of Real Play, on June 5th, we are inviting you to forget your ‘good parent list’ and just have fun with your kids doing all the simple things kids have enjoyed forever.

Real play has no rules and no formula. And that is what makes it great! Real play is about having time to go outside, to make stuff up, and make stuff ups. To enjoy being active and letting our imaginations free.

With Omo we have created some resources to help you get started. You can find them by visiting the National Day of Real Play page on their website. But once you get started you won’t need us to help you. Just keep things simple, cast your mind back to when you were a kid, and share a day of fun with the people you care most about in the world – your kids!
