Great Aussie Campout

My family and I were lucky enough to be part of the Great Aussie Camp Out on Saturday October 11th and It was an amazing experience. Between the helpful staff and warm Indigenous welcome to country we were spoiled for activities and any assistance we needed. Upon arrival while the parents were busying themselves setting up tents, the children began making a tepee out of branches collected from the bush. A little while into branch collecting a few dads were enlisted to help carry some larger branches, a few tools were brought out by the boys and the children played for hours in their makeshift setup before breaking for afternoon tea. Afternoon activities included bushwalks, indigenous experiences and cave tours. Late in the evening after a rather unsuccessful night stalk the camp fire was lit and Derek treated the children to some amazing Noongar dreaming stories, marshmallows were roasted and very tired children were put to bed. It was a beautiful experience that I am sure my children, and those of all the families who participated will remember for the rest of their lives. A huge thank you to Nature Play WA for the opportunity to experience camping at Yanchep. Some of the Mums and I were checking out the gorgeous glamping tents provided for those without their own outdoor gear, they looked like a real treat. ;)
