Celebrating Mother’s Day with a unique twist!

Attendees joined Nature Play WA and the City of Cockburn on Sunday 13 May at the picturesque Manning Park to celebrate all things mum! It was a unique way to celebrate Mother’s Day, with around 4,000 children, parents, grandparents and other family members and friends getting together to spend some time outdoors.

The event was all about celebrating how fun getting messy as a family can be! To embrace this, there were a variety of unstructured, messy activities including:

Mud puddles;
Mud Masks;
Mud Sculpting;
Mud-stacle Course; and
Cubby building.

With beautiful weather, and smiling faces, kids and parents were encouraged to embrace the event and get messy. It was fantastic to see so many people jumping in the puddles, playing with the mud kitchens, or simply sitting back and spending some time with their loved ones. The weather was perfect, with many families spending hours at the park enjoying the sunshine and making nature play memories together.

This was the first mud event for Nature Play WA, and has proven to be a great learning experience. Due to the location of the event, some considerations were required in regards to the quality and quantity of dirt used.  The unseasonably fine weather also left us with a warmer and drier day than anticipated. We’d like to thank everyone for their understanding, and are very excited to announce that we’ll be back with more mud events, and have implemented some changes to ensure the quality of mud is perfect for your family to get stuck into.

Our next event is the Mud Monster’s Ball, in the beautiful historic town of York, as part of the YORKids Festival, on Saturday June 3rd.

Nature Play WA would like to thank City of Cockburn for their support, providing us with the opportunity to deliver this event free to the public. We also want to thank all of you for attending Mudder’s Day and celebrating outdoor play in Western Australia!
