Nature Play WA
Supporting the mental & physical health of WA kids, by connecting to nature through outdoor play.
We`ve developed a Social Story for Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park - a dedicated nature play space for kids, encouraging learning and discovery!
A Social Story™ answers the ‘wh’ questions – where and when a situation occurs, who is involved, what is happening and why – allowing individuals to learn socially appropriate behaviour and responses.
This Social Story™ aims to help people of all abilities to plan and prepare for their visit to Naturescape in @kingsparkandbotanicgarden by explaining what they can expect on the day of their visit.

This time of year sees a change in seasons in both the north and the south of WA.
Nature Play WA’s offices are on Whadjuk Noongar Country, so we’re moving into Djeran, one of the six Noongar seasons (bonar).
Occurring across April and May, Djeran is the Autumn bonar that marks the beginning of the cooler weather, and is the time when Aboriginal people traditionally repaired shelters and housing, and planned for the coming rains and colder weather. Fishing continued and bulbs and seeds were collected for food.
Djeran is also the season of red flowers, including the red flowering gum, and banksias display their flowers at this time too!
Marrul is the hot/late summer season of the Yawuru people, the traditional owners of the lands and waters in and around Broome (Rubibi), in the Kimberley region of WA.
Marrul is the shortest season of the year, that begins with the budding of the inland bloodwood tree and lasts until the winds start to blow from the south-east. It is a good time for hunting lizards and birds, and collecting wild prune and sand paper figs.
What Indigenous season is it where you live?
