More than 1,000 people from over 50 different nationalities visited Gosnells to celebrate multiculturalism through art, craft, sport and play.
Nature Play WA and the City of Gosnells joined forces to deliver the International Play Day, a FREE event for the community! Families that came along were able to take part in a number of cultural experiences including:
- An Aboriginal inspired art piece with Urban Indigenous
- Chinese paper cutting with the Confucius Institute
- African drumming with African Oz Drum n Dance
- Traditional Indonesian culture through art, sport and dance with Selendang Sutra
These activities provided a great opportunity for multicultural families to get to know each other, and each other’s cultures, in a safe and friendly environment.
Nature Play WA also showcased two nature play favourites – nature craft through creating nature arm bands and mud play with our famous mud kitchens!
We were also joined by the City of Gosnells Parks Play program, providing sensory activities to kids of all ages.
Attendees were provided with access to information from local organisations including Communicare, Mercy Care and Women’s Health and Wellbeing.
Nature Play WA were also very excited to launch the new take home resource, the City of Gosnells Nature Passport. This booklet highlights nature playgrounds, green open spaces, wetlands and other nature-rich locations within the City of Gosnells.
It was a beautiful winter’s day at Centennial Pioneer Park, celebrating the diversity in the local community through fun activities outdoors with the whole family!
This project is funded by the Department of Home Affairs Fostering Integration Grants program. The grants support new initiatives by not-for-profit organisations that will help migrants better integrate into Australian life through employment and community participation.
