Mud, Sun & Fun at the Nature Play Out Day

Perth kids ran wild at the Matilda Bay foreshore on October 4th, engaging in creative and adventurous outdoor play at Nature Play WA’s Play Out Day.

Foreboding forecasts of rain don’t deter us here at Nature Play WA – we run Play Out Day rain or shine! And luck was on our side last week: light morning showers disappeared quickly, giving us a perfect sunny Perth day for playing.

Families worked together to build cubbies and forts, make kites and mud pies, get messy with clay, sing songs and play in the shallows of the Swan River. It was great to see a wide range of ages getting involved in school holiday outdoor play. All of the activity stations were buzzing.

Hours of running around, swimming, creating and playing had participants working up an appetite; thankfully the Cambridge Scout group were on hand to fire up the barbecue for a good old-fashioned sausage sizzle. The scouts also demonstrated their impressive knot-tying skills.

At the end of the Play Out Day, 350 kids and their parents went home with plenty of exciting new shared experiences to talk about – some left Matilda Bay covered in mud, some dripping wet from a swim in the river, and some proudly carrying a handmade kite back to the car.

Join us in Margaret River next month to take part in a series of exciting, immersive activities in nature. Make and cook your own damper over a campfire, toast marshmallows, take a guided bush tucker walk, do some nature crafts, cubby building, geocaching and mucking around with other like-minded families who love to get out in nature! And did we mention it’s a three-night camping weekend?Did you miss out on the Nature Play Out Day? Don’t worry – we’re already working on our next event!
