Outdoor Learning Webinar 2 Video & Resources

Webinar Recording

First streamed live and recorded on Tuesday October 13, 2020, the first webinar in our series of five introduces the benefits of the outdoor environment for learning and the positive effects on children’s holistic development.

The second webinar in our series discusses children’s preferences for small worlds, imagination and adventure in their play. In our second webinar, David Sobel’s Outdoor Play Motifs were introduced, and teachers were encouraged to consider children’s perspectives and observe these seven different types of play. We considered how to create inviting spaces in the outdoor environment and touched on how these play types can be harnessed for learning. The General Capabilities in the Western Australian Curriculum, National Quality Standard and the Early Years Learning Framework all highlight the importance of collaboration and shared experiences outdoors.
