What We Do

We work collaboratively with partners in recreation, education, health, environment, community, and the business world to encourage the WA community to value nature play and for it to be prioritised in children’s lives.

Nature Play WA is dedicated to ensuring every Western Australian child has a childhood filled with the outdoor play and connection to nature that supports their physical and mental health, resilience, creativity, and emotional intelligence, and will help them thrive in a complex world.

We support outdoor play through participation programs, advocacy, and research.

Our participation programs range from mass participation events, to do-it-yourself activities shared through our apps and social media channels, to school-based campaigns like Outdoor Classroom Day.

Our advocacy includes sharing the story of nature play through the news and social media and helping drive important campaigns like the WA Play Charter.

Research is part of everything we do. We work with research partners like the Telethon Kids Institute on important projects like the PLAYCE Study, we collate and share research on this website, and increasingly we are incorporating research in every stage of own our programs and projects.

We Acknowledge
Nature Play WA acknowledges the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation, as the custodians of the land where our team lives and works. We also acknowledge the traditional custodians throughout Western Australia and recognise the continuing connection of Indigenous people to their land, waters, sky, culture and community. We pay our respect to all Indigenous people of this land; ancestors, elders and young ones.
