Who We Are

Nature Play WA is an incorporated not-for-profit association and a registered charity, dedicated to supporting the mental and physical health of Western Australian children by growing their connection to nature and community through outdoor play.

Nature Play WA was launched by the Government of Western Australia in 2010 on the back of a growing body of research demonstrating that play and engagement with the outdoors early in life supports children’s development, physical activity levels, connections to nature, resilience, social and emotional literacy, cognitive growth, and physical and mental health.

We became an independent not for profit in 2011 with the support of a membership base of leading organisations in fields as diverse as recreation, environmental conservation, medicine, education, community and local government.

Together we are working to ensure that Western Australian children have access to time and space to play and to connect with our state’s greatest asset, our extraordinary natural environment.

We Acknowledge
Nature Play WA acknowledges the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation, as the custodians of the land where our team lives and works. We also acknowledge the traditional custodians throughout Western Australia and recognise the continuing connection of Indigenous people to their land, waters, sky, culture and community. We pay our respect to all Indigenous people of this land; ancestors, elders and young ones.
