About the Course
The Becoming a Playful Educator eCourse will inspire you to create enriching, active experiences for children through playful learning outdoors.
Each session will provide you will tools, resources and inspiration for planning and implementing an engaging nature and play-based approach to your outdoor setting.
Available for completion individually or as a team, you can easily work at your own pace through our series of bite-sized, online modules!
The course includes a total of 14 modules across four primary content areas, with each including a selection of video and audio files, questions for stimulating thinking, facilitator notes for learning together as a team, and more.
The modules (with approximate time required) are;
Part 1: The Importance of Being a Playful Educator
1.1 Attitudes towards outdoor play and learning and physical activity (1 hour)
1.2 Childrenโs intrinsic motivation to play and be physical (1 hour)
1.3 Being playful as an educator (1 hour)
1.4 Enhancing educatorsโ skills for supporting childrenโs physical play (20-25 minutes)
Part 2: Creating Active & Playful Outdoor Learning Environments
2.1 Active and playful outdoor learning environments – Space (2 hours)
2.2 Active and playful outdoor learning environments – Resources (3.5 hours)
2.3 Active and playful outdoor learning environments – Time (1 hour)
Part 3: Exploring Play Opportunities
3.1 Exploring how play provides unlimited opportunities for children to improve their physical activity (1 hour)
3.2 Discovering frameworks to guide thinking about play (1.5 hours)
3.3 Child-led and play-based, open-ended physical activity (1 hour)
3.4 Intentional experiences using the Arts as a stimulus (2.5 hours)
Part 4: Planning Cycles and Documentation
4.1 Planning cycles and documentation for active outdoor play – observe then analyse (1 hour)
4.2 Planning cycles and documentation for active outdoor play – make and implement a plan (1 hour)
4.3 Planning cycles and documentation for active outdoor play – evaluate and review (1 hour)
