Play Trails App

Our Play Trails app takes traditional scavenger hunt games to a whole new level. Using the app, players visit trail locations to unlock challenges, solve quiz questions and score points. Find out more about the Play Trails App.

Play Trails app - Privacy Policy

The PlayTrails app is intended primarily for Western Australian families, as an activity that can be undertaken with and under the supervision of parents. We do not market directly to children under the age of 13 years old.

This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) describes the

  • Information that we gather on or through the Play Trails app;
  • How we use such information;
  • The steps we take to protect such information; and
  • Right of access and erasure
  • Our app does not include any in-app purchasing or in-app advertising.

It was developed using the app creation service Locatify.

Information that we gather on or through the Play Trails app

When joining a Play Trail game the user is asked to enter a name or alias (a First/Last name is not required) to identify themselves on the trail leaderboard. No additional personal or identifying information is requested and all data collected is anonymised.

The user's camera and/or microphone may be used in some Play Trails when completing challenges. The pictures taken in a challenge are saved to the users phone and are not shared with other app users.

Photos taken by app users are uploaded, stored and encrypted on the Locatify servers, which is necessary for the games to work. Locatify uses Amazon’s AWS hosting services (with industry standard encryption) and you can read their Privacy Policy.

Photo access from the scoreboard and app Content Management System (CMS) has been removed so that Nature Play WA staff, or anyone logging into the Play Trails app CMS, does not have access to the photo data.

How we use such information

The number of times the Play Trails app and Play Trails content is downloaded is counted in order to analyse the performance of trails. All data collected is anonymised. Google Analytics data may also be captured and used for this purpose.

Bluetooth and WiFi/3G access

For indoor Play Trails the app requires Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) when locating the user indoors using the iBeacon technology.  WiFi/mobile phone data is used to download content to enjoy offline.

Data protection

Our Play Trails app has been developed using the Locatify app creation services. Data protection is of a particularly high priority for the management of Locatify services - please see the Locatify Privacy Policy for further details.

Right of access and erasure

Please see the Locatify Privacy Policy for details regarding your right of access to information from Locatify about your personal data stored at any time and right to request erasure of personal data concerning you.

App users will be notified of any Privacy Policy changes on this Privacy Policy Page.
