Five Things to Do at Kent Street Weir
Considering a visit to the Canning River Regional Park? We can help you plan your day with this list of five fun things to do at Kent Street Weir, a popular, family-friendly area of the park.
Kent Street Weir offers families a wonderful, nature-rich day trip destination where they can spend a day exploring along shaded riverside paths, picnicking under tall trees, paddling in the river and spotting some of the 97 species of birds in and around the wetlands.

5 Things to Do At Kent St Weir
1. Have a picnic
The wide open space of grass makes Kent Street Weir a perfect place to bring your family and friends for a picnic alongside the Canning River. Shaded seating is available throughout the park, and accessible as you travel along the wide-open pathways.
Kent Street Weir features three premium wheelchair accessible barbecues. These meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act specifications and allows seated users of all abilities to cook (they are also a suitable height to keep children from reaching hot surfaces).
2. Walk trails
The park has several paved pathways for walking and riding throughout the park.
The Butterflies, Birds and Bridges Loop trail is a 4km loop trail through the Canning Regional Park. The trail has a flat even surface making it suitable for prams and wheelchairs. The pathway is dual use with cyclists often using the pathways. The trail is beautiful all year round. We think the best time to visit is in spring when the wetlands are full, and the natural fauna and flora are in flourish.
Please beware of snakes during warmer summer months and ensure children are supervised around the Weir and other bodies of water.
3. Fishing
Kent Street Weir is a great location for fishing. The Reel It In bin provided on site helps to reduce the impact of discarded fishing line and tackle. Use the bin (which is made of 100% recycled materials) to help protect the animals that live here.
4. Visit the Eco Education Centre
The Canning River Eco Education Centre provides sustainability and environmental education through its programs to support children, adults, schools, community groups and the public.
Visit the Eco Education Centre to learn about the animals and birds that live in the surrounding wetlands and bush. There are displays of animals and plants and the friendly staff are available to answer any questions.

5. Bird Watching
There are 97 species of birds in the Canning River Regional Park. Commonly spotted waterbirds include cormorants, swamp hens, ibis, pelican, egret, ducks and spoonbills. Find a comfortable place where you will be able to see or hear the birds of the Canning River.
