Nature Nook: A Calm Place to Play
Nature Play WA’s Nature Nook is a calm, inclusive pop-up play space designed to support children (and their adults) who may become overwhelmed in busy or highly stimulating environments, perfect for your next community event!

The Nature Nook provides a space for calm and connected play as a respite at public events, parks, or community spaces where large crowds, noise, or unpredictable stimuli can create barriers to participation — especially for neurodivergent individuals or those with sensory processing differences.
Within the Nature Nook, families will find a series of sensory nature activities inspired by nature that reflect themes of curiosity, creativity, and connection to the natural world.
These resources encourage exploration, imagination and sensory engagement, with clear visual instruction sheets encouraging self-directed play, either solo or with family support.
Nature Play WA Nature Nook Inclusions
Each Nature Play WA Nature Nook is:
Nature-themed: Decorated with calming natural elements such as soft lighting, nature imagery, neutral-toned fabrics, and tactile materials that reflect the Nature Play WA ethos.
Low-stimulation: Designed to be calm and visually soothing with minimal distractions, the Nature Nest includes comfortable seating (mats and cushions), and minimal signage to reduce sensory load.
Strategically located: Easily accessible yet slightly removed from high-traffic areas to ensure a true retreat from stimulation.
Inclusive and Welcoming: Open to anyone needing a break — children, siblings, parents, or carers. Signage clearly indicates the purpose of the space and encourages respectful use.
Staffed by Nature Play WA: Our staff are present to offer a warm welcome, provide gentle guidance, and support families as needed—ensuring everyone feels comfortable and included throughout the experience.
“So much fun hanging with you on Saturday! My 4yo loved the bug hunt and using paint pens on gumnuts and bark. A very calming experience.”
The calm and connected focus of a Nature Nook helps to create more inclusive event experiences, enabling greater participation by those who may otherwise struggle to remain at, or enjoy, public gatherings.
